Lemon Road: A Good Life Needs Both Sweet and Sour

When we first opened our coffee shop more than 20 years ago, we were just young dreamers, enjoying every bit of the entrepreneurial journey.
Our café became a small community where people from all walks of life came to connect with coffee as the bridge. And as with any lively community, there were always little surprises that kept life interesting.

One afternoon, a customer suffering from heatstroke came in to rest. Within minutes, their hands and feet began to cramp. While we were frantically figuring out what to do, another customer at a nearby table revealed he was a doctor. He quickly stepped in to help, using a simple trick placing a plastic bag over the patients nose and mouth to raise carbon dioxide levels in their blood. The cramps subsided almost instantly.

Another day, a snake found its way into the shop. I had to improvise as a snake charmer, using a nylon rope looped through a PVC pipe to catch it safely and release it outside.

Then there were the nights of heavy rain when floods reached the roasting room. My partner Pook and I had to haul sacks of coffee to higher ground in the middle of the night, then drive through floodwater to a relatives house to take shelter. For a moment, we became flood victims ourselves.

Life, of course, is both sour and sweet.
But the sweetest reward of all these years in coffee is this being together as a family, living and working in our hometown of Lampang.
